Kareshi wo Ron de Kaimashita Japanese Drama Review
Boring plot, dull cast, no clear message and all other ingredients of a bad TV show.
One day when I was really bored and out of that boredom I started watching Kareshi wo Ron de Kaimashita. It’s short series just 8 episodes (each episode around 20 mins long), so it was a tossup between this or an Indian movie (or do some work). I wish I had gone with the movie, then I would have at least enjoyed making fun of the movie if it was bad.
Title: Kareshi wo Ron de Kaimashita
Japanese Title: 彼氏をローンで買いました
Network: dTV, FOD
Episodes: 8
Broadcast Date: March 9 – April 27, 2018
Cast: Erina Mano, Kyoko Hasegawa, Ryusei Yokohama
Language: Japanese
Synopsis:
Tae Ukishima (Erina Mano) works as receptionist for a company. She wants to marry her boyfriend, an elite career man Shunpei Shiraishi and live as a housewife. Her real personality is quite different from the one she portrays. Whereas, her boyfriend is a playboy who openly hangs out with other women. One night, drunk Tae ends up purchasing Jun Setsuna (Ryusei Yokohama) from an auction site. To pay off his debts, Jun Setsuna have to act as her slave.
My Opinion on the Drama
Plot:
After I watched the 1st introductory episode, I had high hopes for it. I was expecting it to be like Kimi Wa Petto but after 3rd I knew I had made the wrong choice and found myself skipping forward a lot. Which made things bad to worse because I reached the finale far sooner. I mean ending is so bad that alone on that I would recommend you to not watch this drama. It is supposed to be romance with bit of comedy but it’s only one thing “BAD” (and not in a culty way).

Charcters:
Story itself was so bad that I didn’t care about characters at all. Tae in every episode “coincidentally” meets her boyfriend in front of her favourite dress shop with a new girl besides him. In front of every girl she pretends to be a co-worker of her “boyfriend”. There is no romantic chemistry between Tae and her boyfriend or Tae and the slave. There is no comedy as well which I was expecting after reading the premise.
Acting was also just okay, Erina wasn’t able to portray herself as a domineering woman at all. Kyoko Hasegawa was the only saving grace of the series. She acted perfectly, looked beautiful but didn’t have much play room to show her complete class. Both men were like nonexistent, they either with another women or just doing what they are told. Ryusei was more like a cute puppy rather than the main lead.
Comments:
Drama being nearly 260 min. long was the only reason I was able to finish it (I watched all episodes in one sitting after whole series was aired). I just couldn’t figure from start to finish what they were trying to sell. There is no romance neither comedic scenes that will genuinely make you laugh. Rather than the ending they shown if they have shown every character jumping off the bridge I would have enjoyed that more. I am boring myself even writing about it. I watched this crappy series so you don’t have to (so say thanks).
Should I watch this: Don’t watch this crap!
