Plot:

The comedy thriller drama is about the life of a woman Dong-Baek and 3 men she gets involved it. Dong-Baek is a single mother who runs a bar in a food alley dominated by females. 3 men she gets involved with are a good man, a bad man and a cheap man. Yong-Sik (Kang Ha-Neul) a cop who falls in love with Dong-Baek. Jong-Ryeol (Kim Ji-Suk) a pro baseball player whose wife is a social media “star”. They have a kid together but are separated although they act as a couple in front of cameras. He may also be father of Dong-Baek’s kid. Last is Kyu-Tae (Oh Jung-Se), Dong-Baek’s cheap land lord who is married to a lawyer.

Surrounding all this is a murder mystery that involves a serial killer.

 

When the Camellia Blooms Episode 1-2 Recap

A dead body is found most likely killed by a serial killer known as Joker. A policeman moves to identify the body while his colleague tries to stop him. Nothing then a bracelet on the dead body is shown, flashback and Dong-Baek (Gong Hyo-Jin) is seen wearing the same bracelet. She opens a new shop in food alley, her neighbors not sure if a flower shop will work in the area. Dong-Baek wants another window in her shop but her cheap landlord (Oh Jung-Se) tells her that she will have to pay for it herself. During their conversation we also learn that Dong-Baek is a single mother.

Meanwhile, Yong-Sik’s mother worried about her son goes to a shaman for a talisman. In another flashback, we see Yong-Sik during his schooldays beat a bank robber. His luck or bad luck continues in this way as he continues to catch culprits at different occasions. He continues to get awards for his bravery and then becomes a cop whose hands are faster than his brain. Elsewhere, Dong-Baek reveals to her neighbors that her shop is not a flower shop but a bar. Years later, Yong-Sik is relocated to his hometown from Seoul after beating a culprit in front of news reporters.

Dong-Baek’s bar has been also doing good although ladies in her area look down on her because she runs a bar and is a single mother. Yong-Sik (Kang Ha-Neul) wants to date an intelligent Seoul lady and has no interest in “country bumpkins.”  He then sees Dong-Baek in a book store and falls for at the first sight. Later, his colleagues take him to Dong-Baek’s bar where he sees her again. He wants to get close to her while she finds him to be a weirdo. Through the episode Dong-Baek is being stalked by someone without her knowledge. Back to the 1st scene, the cop trying to identify the dead body turns out to be Yong-Sik. The identity of the dead body is not revealed.

Kyu-Tae wants to file charges against Yong-Sik for “stealing” his money. Captain Byun is able to calm both sides and takes them for drinks to reconcile. But Yong-Sik and Kyu-Tae ends up fighting again when Kyu-Tae talks bad about Dong-Baek. Elsewhere, Hyang-Mi (Son Dam Bi) asks Dong-Baek about Pil-Goo’s father but doesn’t get a clear answer. Females of food alley complains to Dong-Baek because their husband spend too much money at her bar. Yong-Sik’s mother comes to her rescue, while Yong-Sik takes Pil-Goo’s side when he sees him fighting with other kids. He doesn’t know that Pil-Goo is actually Dong-Baek’s son.

Yong-Sik furthermore tries to teach Pil-Goo life lesson by taking him to arcade. At arcade both of them are caught by Dong-Baek, Pil-Goo then blames Yong-Sik for missing his classes. Yong-Sik becomes a bigger weirdo in Dong-Baek’s eyes while he learns that she has a kid. Yong-Sik worried about Kyu-Tae’s complaint meet with a lawyer Ja-Young,  not knowing that she is her wife. After he tells her about the complaint and involvement of Dong-Baek, Ja-Young reveals her identity and tells him not to worry about the complaint. Elsewhere, Jong-Ryeol comes to the town for the shooting of “The Return of Superman“.

He meets with Dong-Baek and Pil-Goo there, she reveals to him that Pil-Goo is indeed his son. Jong-Ryeol becomes flustered and agitated seeing this she lies to him that not to worry as she is already married. Later, the ladies again confront Dong-Baek, Yong-Sik tries to interfere and help her, but he gets ignore. Dong-Baek feeling down wants to be left alone but Yong-Sik stays with her as he doesn’t want her to cry. He then asks her to be “friends” with her to which she surprisingly agrees. Both of them run into Jong-Ryeol in front of her bar, she holds Yong-Sik’s hand to cover her lie she earlier told Jong-Ryeol. Kyu-Tae also arrives there and the situation becomes more complicated. Later, the serial killer Joker’s trademark quote (addressing Dong-Baek) is seen written on Dong-Baek’s bar’s wall.
