Plot:
Due to a mysterious conspiracy, a man and a woman, who took part in a 24-hour freezing project, wake up 20 years later, instead of 24 hours later. Ma Dong-Chan (Ji Chang-Wook) is a PD, who works on a popular variety show. He and other participants take part in the variety show’s 24-hour freezing people project. Ma Dong-Chan is supposed to wake up 24 hours after being frozen, but, when he wakes up, he finds out that 20 years has passed. His appearance is the same as when he was frozen, but his parents, younger brother, girlfriend and co-workers have all aged significantly. Another participant Ko Mi-Ran (Won Jin-A) a staff member of the variety program also takes part in the project. This is the story of their romance which would not have happened if Cryogenics science was not involved.
Melting Me Softly Episode 1-2 Recap (Ep-1)
Year 1999, Dong-Chan meets with scientist Gap-Soo who is working on a Cryonics experiment involving freezing humans for 24 hours. Dong-Chan is an award-winning variety TV director, he is dating Na Ha-Young a newscaster. Dong-Chan tells Gap-Soo that he along with one other person will take part in the Cryonics project. He is able to convince his chief and also Ha-Young who is quite worried about Dong-Chan. The experiment has already been successfully completed on a dolphin.
They also need a female participant for the experiment. Hyun-Ki (Lee Hong-Ki) suggests Mi-Ran, who has already participated in weird experiments for Dong-Chan’s TV program. Hyun-Ki meets with Mi-Ran, she is bewildered by the request (or order) to freeze herself for 24 hours. Mi-Ran then agrees to meet with Gap-Soo after hearing her pay for joining the experiment. She doesn’t totally agree to participate even after meeting with Gap-Soo and then after her fortune read by a shaman. Meanwhile, something seems suspicious about Gap-Soo and his past. Dong-Chan personally decide to meet with Mi-Ran, he sees Mi-Ran fighting with her boyfriend Byung-Sim (Baro).

Byung-Sim was not only cheating on her but also blames Mi-Ran for cheating on her. She then meets with Dong-Chan and agrees to participate because of her brother. Both of them are frozen while Hyun-Ki and his assistant shoot everything. Couple of hours before they come out Gap-Soo decide to go somewhere, he is followed by some shady person. A car chase ensues between Gap-Soo and his chaser in the end Gap-Soo’s car is destroyed because of a blast. Meanwhile, things go wrong in the lab where experiment is taking place. Gap-Soo’s assistant locks down the lab.

Frightened Hyun-Ki informs his chief about what has happened at the lab. The chief tell him to not inform anyone about the Cryonics experiment, or they will lose their jobs. He is also able to keep Ha-Young quiet who needed money for her mother’s hospital bills. The family members of Dong-Chan and Mi-Ran are heart broken after they go “missing”. The police try to search for them but to no avail. The lab also seems empty but in reality the bodies are underneath the lab. Gap-Soo is also there alive but bed ridden.
Mi-Ran’s family receive a letter and pictures of Mi-Ran in a Cryonics capsule. The letter states that she is alive, but they should not inform anyone about this because it will bring danger to her life. Her family moves away from their house to some place new. Elsewhere, looks like along with Dong-Chan’s disappearance his family’s finances has also taken a big hit. Year 2019, Hyun-Ki (Im Won-Hee) is now a TV director (not a popular one) himself, Ha-Young (Yoon Se-Ah) has become a successful news reporter.

Elsewhere, in the lab Gap-Soo wakes up and injects both Dong-Chan and Mi-Ran with something. Due to which their bodies thaws, and they also wake up from their frozen sleep. Dong-Chan goes out, loses consciousness in a populous area and is then taken to a hospital. At hospital doctors are surprised by his behavior and his low body temperature. Elsewhere, Mi-Ran goes to her old house but then founds it empty. She then goes to police station where cops get surprised after seeing her identity. Her age on her identity doesn’t match her young face, they call her family.
Meanwhile, Dong-Chan who is worried about the shoot tells doctor to call Hyun-Ki. Hyun-Ki gets surprised when he hears about Dong-Chan being alive and in hospital. He calls his chief, Dong-Chan’s family members also arrive at the hospital. Dong-Chan is surprised to see every one as all of them look far to older from “yesterday”. Mi-Ran family hears about her and go to the police station in tears. But by the time Mi-Ran has left the station and goes to meet with her friends. Later, both Dong-Chan and Mi-Ran gets surprise of their life when they learn that they have not woken up in Year 1999 but in 2019.
